Visalakshi Ramani

Hello and welcome to my site!

I was born to Dr. K. N. Raman and Mrs. Meenal Raman as the second of their five children.

I achieved proficiency in Bharatha Natyam and Carnatic music during my school days. I graduated with Distinction from Madras University in 1966, with Physics as my Major subject. I won the National Merit Scholarship for higher studies.

I have diplomas in Carnatic Music, Journalism, Hindi and Fine arts. I have published 72 articles in The Young World of The Hindu between 1993 and 2008.

I am grateful to the thousands of Google Images which made this blog of 1630 parallel proverbs possible.

  1. Madam, an excellent job, indeed! Most useful as a reference. Just happened to visit your blog for English Equivalent of the Tamil proverb: “Kakkai Utkara Panampalam Vizhunda Kathai”. But could not find it. Can you please help? Thank you in advance. MK.

    • Dear Mr. Mohan Kumar,
      Only after I started collecting the Tamil proverbs, I realized what a vast and wonderful treasure of ‘words of wisdom’ we have and do not use.
      A proverb is said to be ‘A short sentence born out of a long experience’. I am going to add more proverbs soon. I am already working on it.
      The particular proverb you have referred to means “Rare coincidences for which a person should not take credit”.

  3. I’ve just come across this site and found it very useful. i was looking for an equivalent proverb to ‘விழுந்தாலும் மீசையில் மண் ஒட்டவில்லை” and there it is!! Thank you very much!
